Thane, Maharashtra — Police in Thane district have dismantled an inter-state chain-snatching gang and arrested three individuals, including a fugitive murder suspect from Uttar Pradesh, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende.
The arrests followed a chain-snatching incident on September 3, in which an elderly woman’s gold chain was stolen in Dombivli. Police teams launched a detailed investigation, examining footage from 106 CCTV cameras, which ultimately led them to a stolen motorcycle from Pune used in the crime.
Acting on these leads, the police raided Sunil Nagar in Dombivli, where the suspects were apprehended. During the operation, authorities seized a country-made rifle, live ammunition, the stolen gold chain, and the motorcycle. The total value of recovered items is estimated at Rs3.8 lakh.
The trio now faces multiple charges, including theft, robbery, and violations under the Arms Act. One of the arrested individuals was found to be wanted in a murder case in Uttar Pradesh, further deepening the seriousness of the case.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the gang is connected to other chain-snatching incidents across Maharashtra and neighboring states.
