In a shocking turn of events, Thane police arrested three individuals, including two policemen, for allegedly stealing Call Detail Records (CDR) and Subscriber Data Records (SDR) from mobile phone numbers and selling the information to a civilian.

The accused have been identified as Akash Sopan Surve, a police Sipai in the Cyber Crime unit, Harshad Laxman Parab, another police Sipai posted in the same unit, and Mohammad Sohel Rajput, a civilian.

On May 3, the police received credible information about the two policemen misusing their positions to illegally obtain sensitive mobile data and sell it to Rajput. After verifying the information, a senior police officer took action and suspended the two officers on May 5.

An FIR was filed against the accused under Sections 303(2), 314, and 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 46, 66, and 72 of the Information Technology Act, pertaining to cybercrimes and misuse of official position.

The Thane Crime Branch Unit 1 carried out the operation and arrested all three individuals on April 5. They were produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
