The Thane Police Commissionerate swiftly cracked three distinct murder cases within a span of 24 hours, leading to the arrest of the accused in each case.
On March 7, Kalwa police responded to a report about a man attacked with a stone. The victim, Anil Behera (35) from Jharkhand, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Senior Inspector Ashok Utekar stated that after reviewing CCTV footage and using technical intelligence, Santosh Lad (45), a Kalwa resident, was arrested. Lad confessed to killing Anil during a personal dispute.
The second case occurred in Mumbra’s Shilphata area on March 11. Police were alerted to the murder of Zakir Molla (39) in Khan Compound. Ashraful Molla (34), suspected of being jealous over a woman named Priya, had invited Zakir for drinks and killed him by slitting his throat while he slept. Police captured Ashraful at Kalyan railway station, and he admitted to the crime.
The third incident was reported on March 12 at Mumbra police station after Mohammad Rahul Azim Raeen (25) was admitted with throat injuries and later died at Sion Hospital. Investigations revealed that Sadique Sayyed (19) of Mumbra had stolen several phones, including one belonging to Rahul. When confronted, Sadique attacked Rahul with a cutter. Sadique was arrested shortly after.
The Thane Police Commissionerate praised the coordination between local crime branches and police stations for quickly solving the cases and bringing the culprits to justice.
