The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Thane Crime Branch made a significant arrest on September 14, apprehending a 29-year-old man found in possession of over 1 kilogram of charas valued at more than Rs 1.1 crore.
The accused, identified as Masud Badbudin Ainarkar, a driver from Dapoli in Ratnagiri district, was caught near a new construction site at Haware City on the road from Shilphata to Mumbra. Acting on a tip-off, Police Constable Amol Desai laid a trap and arrested Ainarkar, according to Senior Inspector Rahul Maske of the ANC Thane Crime Branch.
A case has been registered against Ainarkar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Shil-Daighar police station. He was produced before a local court and remanded in police custody until September 23.
The investigation is being overseen by Assistant Police Inspector Somnath Karnwar Patil from the Anti-Narcotics Squad. Officials suspect that the seized contraband might be part of a larger international drug trafficking network. “The other sources of the racket are being probed,” said the officer.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav.
