Thane Rural Police have arrested Shashank alias Sonu Balram Mishra (32), a history-sheeter from Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the murder of Dinesh Kumar Manaram Chaudhary (25), a jewelry shop salesman shot dead last month in Shahapur.
Mishra and his associate, Ankit Yadav, are accused of the killing carried out by two armed men on a bike. A third suspect, Faizan Pappu Siddiqui, is still absconding.
Police formed twelve investigative teams and analyzed multiple CCTV footages from Shahapur to Bhiwandi and along highways. With technical intelligence, they tracked Mishra to Manjhanpur village in Kaushambi district, UP. The UP police aided in his arrest and his subsequent transit to Maharashtra for custody.
Senior Inspector Jitendra Thakur revealed that Mishra was produced before a UP court, granted transit remand, and remanded in custody until January 13. The weapon used in the crime is yet to be recovered.
Mishra has a history of serious criminal charges, including murder and attempted murder in UP. Investigations also revealed that the suspects stayed near the shop for five days prior to the murder, and Tausif Alam Siddiqui, also from UP, provided them shelter in Bhiwandi.
The search continues for Ankit Yadav and Faizan Siddiqui as police intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
