The Naupada Police in Thane cracked ten burglary cases by arresting Ganesh Gupta alias Ganesh Avhad (20), a habitual thief who allegedly broke into homes by prying open main doors and escaping with valuables. Police recovered gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs10.99 lakh from the accused, a resident of the Diva area near the dumping ground.
On July 14, Atul Marathe reported a burglary where gold and silver ornaments worth Rs7.99 lakh were stolen between 1:30 PM and 10:30 PM the previous day. Acting on the complaint, police examined CCTV footage and spotted a woman with two children, one carrying a bag suspected to contain housebreaking tools.
After reviewing nearly 100 CCTV clips, police identified the woman as a habitual burglar. Photos of her and her accomplice were circulated. Utilizing technical surveillance and local intelligence, police traced and arrested Ganesh Gupta. Stolen valuables worth Rs10.99 lakh were recovered from his possession.
Ganesh was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation. During interrogation, he revealed his mother’s identity as Pooja Gupta alias Pooja Prakash Avhad (45), who is now being sought as an accomplice.
