Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district arrested two men after seizing high-grade hybrid ganja valued at Rs 83 lakh from their possession, officials said on Thursday, as reported by news agency PTI.
A police team noticed the suspects moving suspiciously on a scooter near the Mankoli flyover in Bhiwandi late Tuesday night.
“When our team stopped and searched them, we found packets of hybrid ganja weighing 833 grams concealed inside the scooter,” an official from Narpoli police station said.
The duo had reportedly brought the contraband for sale in the local market. The total estimated value of the seized material is Rs 83.3 lakh, the official added.
The arrested men, identified as 24-year-old Akash Gupta and 26-year-old Harsh Bramhane, both residents of Ulhasnagar, were taken into custody along with the narcotics and scooter.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the two were part of a small-scale drug distribution network operating between Ulhasnagar and Bhiwandi in Thane district.
“We are now tracing the source of the contraband and identifying the intended buyers,” the official said.
