PATHUM THANI, Thailand – A Thai man dubbed the “ninja thief”, 22-year-old Korraphak, was arrested on April 30 after attempting to evade capture by hiding under a bed in an apartment in Pathum Thani province.
Korraphak was wanted for allegedly committing over 20 thefts targeting second-hand item sellers on social media. Victims reported that he would pose as a buyer, arrange a meetup, then snatch the item and flee on a motorcycle. He used vehicles with fake or no license plates, and at times even stolen motorcycles, to obscure his identity.
Frustrated by the lack of action despite filing complaints at 13 police stations, several victims sought help from Thai influencer Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet, who took the matter public and pushed for a coordinated investigation.
One victim, John, said he was scammed out of a 59,000-baht camera. Another, Bee, attempted to sell her iPhone 15 to Korraphak, only to be assaulted and left unconscious after he snatched the phone and fled.
With Gun’s coordination, the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (IDMB) and several police units launched a joint operation that led to Korraphak’s arrest.
In a now-viral video shared by Gun, officers are seen entering the suspect’s apartment and initially finding it empty—except for a cat. After searching the premises, they discovered Korraphak hiding beneath a bed’s wooden base.
Korraphak was taken into custody, but authorities say legal proceedings remain ongoing due to the number and complexity of his alleged crimes.
