BANGKOK, THAILAND – A Thai man and his Laotian girlfriend were arrested for allegedly stealing a delivery rider’s motorcycle after the rider left the keys in the ignition while picking up an order in the Sukhaphiban 5 area.
The suspects, identified as Anukul, 39, and Champa, 30, confessed to similar thefts in the past, admitting they had already sold one stolen motorcycle.
Incident and Arrest
The theft occurred on March 26 at around 10 a.m. when a food delivery rider parked his Honda Wave 125i outside a restaurant in Sai Mai district but accidentally left the key in the ignition. When he returned, the motorcycle was gone.
Police reviewed CCTV footage, which showed a suspect approaching the restaurant on foot before stealing the motorcycle and fleeing towards the Watcharapol intersection. Following a tip-off, police tracked the suspects to a resort in Bang Khen district, where they were found with the stolen motorcycle.
Charges and Confessions
Anukul and Champa were arrested on charges of theft and possession of stolen goods. Additionally, Champa was charged with illegal immigration after admitting she had entered Thailand without a passport about three to four months ago.
Authorities also discovered a pink wallet containing an ID card belonging to Champa’s previous boyfriend and another motorcycle key. The suspects confessed to previous motorcycle thefts in the Sai Mai area, including one they had already sold. The license plate of the stolen motorcycle was found removed and placed beside the bed.
The case remains under investigation, and police have urged victims of similar thefts to come forward.
