NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A man from Texas was arrested Friday after attempting to fraudulently withdraw money from a Wells Fargo bank in downtown North Platte, according to the North Platte Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of a suspicious transaction at the bank, where they identified 29-year-old Jiancheng Chen of Dallas, Texas as the suspect. Investigators say Chen had been traveling across multiple states, visiting banks and accessing victims’ accounts by using stolen personal information obtained through various scams.
During the arrest, police seized approximately $36,000 in cash believed to be connected to the fraudulent activities. Additionally, materials suggesting Chen’s involvement with a criminal syndicate based in another state were recovered.
Chen was taken to the Lincoln County Detention Center and faces several felony charges, including theft by receiving stolen property over $5,000, possession of a financial transaction device, racketeering, criminal impersonation, identity theft, and attempted theft by deception.
The investigation remains active, with North Platte Police collaborating with other agencies to uncover the full extent of Chen’s criminal operations.
