HUMBLE, Texas (KTRK) — A veteran law enforcement officer with more than 15 years of service in Harris County has been arrested in connection with a theft investigation. Deputy Constable Perry Wesley, who has worked for Precinct 7, is accused of stealing from multiple Walmart stores while in uniform.
Wesley, who has been working as an eviction officer, was arrested Tuesday at the constable’s office. Following the arrest, he has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation continues.
According to Harris County Precinct 7 Constable James “Smokie” Phillips, Wesley was working an off-duty security job at two Walmart locations in the Humble area. Investigators allege that Wesley stole approximately $1,900 worth of merchandise over several months, from October until the arrest.
Some of the items Wesley is accused of stealing include phone chargers, dog food, antifreeze, and other personal items. It is reported that Wesley would take the stolen goods through the self-checkout lanes without scanning them.
Constable Phillips expressed his shock and disappointment in the actions of Wesley, stating, “For him to get in this kind of conduct in uniform, it’s disheartening to me. Especially when we try to change the culture of policing, integrity is important.”
The case is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the full extent of Wesley’s alleged thefts.
