MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — A man arrested in connection with a Myrtle Beach shooting Sunday was reportedly in the United States illegally, according to police records.

Tevin Hinds, 31, a Jamaican national, faces charges for possession, purchase, sale, or transport of a firearm by an unlawful alien, as well as discharging a firearm within city limits, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD).

Police responded to the shooting around 5:04 a.m. Sunday, finding two shell casings at the scene. Surveillance footage captured a white BMW in the area, which was later confirmed to be registered to Hinds.

At 5:53 a.m., MBPD notified nearby hospitals about the incident. Hinds was eventually taken to a local hospital, where officers met with him. According to the report, Hinds confirmed he was driving the BMW, said he was in the area to drop someone off after a party, and stated he had been struck in the right ear by gunfire.

Officers said Hinds was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
