FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) — A 30-year-old woman, identified as Tessa Schmidt, was arrested Tuesday night after leading North Dakota Highway Patrol on a dangerous high-speed chase that ended in a rollover crash.
The pursuit began in Barnes County as Schmidt sped westbound on Interstate 94, refusing to stop when troopers attempted a traffic stop. She maintained speeds near 125 miles per hour as she crossed into Stutsman County, according to authorities.
The chase ended approximately 20 miles later when Schmidt lost control of her vehicle while trying to avoid tire deflation strips deployed by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office and Jamestown Police Department. Her vehicle rolled over, but she sustained only minor injuries and was treated at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Schmidt was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including:
Fleeing law enforcement
Reckless endangerment
Driving under the influence
Driving with a suspended license
A breathalyzer test taken three hours after the crash showed Schmidt had a blood alcohol content of .141, nearly twice the legal limit. Her license had already been suspended at the time of the incident.
