A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder nearly four months after a deadly shooting outside a bar in Central El Paso.
Terrence Mathews was taken into custody in Alabama and extradited to El Paso in connection with the June killing of 31-year-old Damian Arce, police said. Arce was fatally shot in the parking lot of Chit Chat Bar & Lounge during the early hours of June 1.
According to a news release from the El Paso Police Department, officers were performing a bar check around 1 a.m. at the lounge located in the 4800 block of Dyer Street when they heard a gunshot nearby. Responding officers found Arce in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso, where he later died.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred following an altercation between Arce and Mathews, who fled the scene immediately after the incident. A murder warrant was later issued, resulting in Mathews’ arrest and extradition from Alabama.
Mathews was booked into the El Paso County Jail on September 23 and is being held on a $1 million bond. No attorney is listed for him in court records at this time.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
