Telangana police arrested Jasimuddin, a migrant worker from Andharu village in Malda district, on Monday night in connection with a jewellery shop robbery in Suryapet, Telangana.

Police sources confirmed that around 550 grams of gold ornaments and Rs4.55 lakh in cash were recovered from Jasimuddin’s residence in Malda.

According to Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Malda’s district police chief, a team from Telangana had been in Malda for four days before the arrest. A Chanchal court granted a four-day transit remand, permitting police to take the accused to Telangana for further interrogation.

Jasimuddin, who works as a painter in Suryapet, is accused of robbing the jewellery shop on July 21. A local youth arrested in Telangana revealed Jasimuddin’s involvement, but the accused had fled to his native village with the stolen items.

Police also revealed that Jasimuddin was previously implicated in a 2023 jewellery shop robbery in Gurgaon, Uttar Pradesh, suggesting he may be a habitual offender. Authorities expect to gather more information during the ongoing investigation.
