SLAUGHTERVILLE, Okla. (KFOR) — New details have emerged regarding the deadly robbery in Cleveland County earlier this month that claimed the life of 21-year-old Luke Hutchinson. Two men, including a teenager, have been charged in connection to his death, which Hutchinson’s family has described as a “violent” and “senseless” act.
Bradley Banister, 26, and Avery Weiser, 16, are now facing first-degree murder charges. New court documents provide insight into the events surrounding the robbery that led to Hutchinson’s death.
According to a witness, Weiser and Hutchinson had a prior altercation weeks before the murder, during which Weiser allegedly threatened to return and kill Hutchinson. On October 10, Weiser returned with Banister to Hutchinson’s camper. The details of what transpired next remain unclear, as the suspects’ stories do not match up.
Weiser stated that Banister picked him up and gave him “clear disposable gloves” to wear during the robbery. Weiser claimed that when they arrived at Hutchinson’s home, a fight broke out, and Banister shot Hutchinson in the back multiple times. He also stated that Banister “accidentally shot him in the leg.”
Weiser admitted to bringing a gun to the robbery, though he was unsure whether he shot Hutchinson. Initially, Banister denied knowing Weiser but later changed his story after witnesses confirmed they had been together. He continued to deny involvement in the robbery, claiming that he didn’t own a firearm due to his felon status.
Deputies later searched Banister’s home and discovered a makeshift firing range, shell casings, and a pile of clear disposable gloves.
Though it remains unclear who exactly fired the fatal shots, the community reflects on the tragic loss. A friend of the victim, Brice Handcock, recalled, “Avery would just go over to his house all the time and just hang out… but I never knew the boy to shoot him.”
The investigation continues, and both suspects are now facing first-degree murder charges in connection with Hutchinson’s death.
