LEAGUE CITY, TX — A 78-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly striking and killing another man with his vehicle following a neighborhood dispute.

According to the League City Police Department, Ted Cassell, of Burton, was taken into custody Saturday, May 10, after officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle in the 1900 block of Cove Park Drive at approximately 4:51 p.m.

Emergency crews from League City Fire Department attempted life-saving measures on the 72-year-old male victim, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Witnesses at the scene told authorities that the driver of the suspect vehicle—a white Ford F-150—remained at the scene. Cassell was found inside the truck and detained without incident.

Police say the incident followed a verbal altercation between Cassell and several residents of the Glen Cove neighborhood, including the victim.

League City’s crash investigation team, detectives, and crime scene unit responded to the area to continue their investigation.

Cassell was booked into Galveston County Jail around 9 p.m. and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
