Prayagraj police arrested two women teachers, Arti Jaiswal (40) and Shivangi Jaiswal (25), for allegedly repeatedly slapping a three-and-a-half-year-old nursery student, which led to his death on May 15 in the trans Yamuna area.
Both women, residents of Maheva Paschim Patti in Naini, were booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The teachers were apprehended near Agriculture Institute Road as they were reportedly planning to flee the city, said DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Yadav.
During interrogation, Arti admitted that she was teaching class 7 students when Shivangi called her to the nursery classroom. Upon arrival, Arti saw Shivay crying and Shivangi slapping him repeatedly, despite the presence of Shivay’s elder brother, Sumit Jaiswal, who tried to intervene.
Shivangi claimed the child was abusing her, which led her to slap him. Arti, in a moment of anger, also slapped the boy. Both teachers continued to physically punish the child, ignoring his brother’s attempts to stop them.
The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about child safety in private schools. Further investigations are ongoing.
