ORANGE, Texas — Kerri Simon Kelly, a cosmetology teacher at West Orange-Stark High School, was arrested on multiple charges by Vinton police on September 8, officials confirmed.
According to Vinton Police Chief Scott Spell, the 44-year-old was found “extremely intoxicated” when officers responded to a disturbance at a residence at 10:19 p.m. While investigating a domestic violence incident, Kelly allegedly grabbed an officer, which led to additional charges.
Kelly was taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being formally charged and booked. During booking, officers discovered two prescription pills not stored in a bottle, prompting a drug possession charge.
She faces four charges: domestic abuse battery, resisting an officer with force or violence, battery of a police officer, and possession of less than 28 grams of a Schedule II controlled substance.
The charges were filed shortly before her booking early Tuesday morning. Kelly is currently held at Calcasieu Parish Jail with bond pending.
West Orange-Cove CISD confirmed Kelly is employed by the district but declined to confirm if she is on administrative leave.
District Superintendent Dr. Alicia Sigee stated, “The WOCCISD confirms that Kerri Simon Kelly, an employee of the district, has been arrested for conduct unrelated to the school district. The District will fully cooperate with law-enforcement authorities as needed for their investigation. As this is a personal matter, WOCCISD will not be providing further comment at this time.”
The case remains under investigation, with no additional details available at this time.
