Richmond, IN — For the second time in less than two weeks, Tayonne T. Tevis, 29, of Richmond, Indiana, has been arrested on drug charges.

Tevis was first taken into custody on May 26 by the Richmond Police Department. He was charged with dealing cocaine, as well as possession of narcotics, controlled substances, and marijuana. He was booked on a $30,000 surety bond, which was paid on June 2, leading to his release.

However, just a day later on June 3, Tevis was arrested again.

According to Richmond Police, Tevis and 22-year-old Destiny A. Moore were pulled over around 2:30 p.m. near S. 14th Street. A K9 unit detected narcotics in the vehicle. A search revealed crack cocaine, heroin, prescription pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into jail. Tevis’s bond was set at $11,250, and Moore’s at $7,500. Charges are pending.

In a Facebook post, Richmond Police acknowledged the repeat arrest:

“Tayonne again? Yes. He was arrested just last week on drug dealing charges. Some folks just can’t stay out of the backseat of our patrol cars.”

Police Chief Kyle Weatherly added, “If the first arrest doesn’t get your attention, the second one will.”

Court records show Tevis has a lengthy criminal history in Indiana, with at least 13 criminal cases since 2012, including charges for theft, resisting law enforcement, DUI, drug dealing, and more.

Moore’s past offenses are less severe and include minor tobacco possession and traffic violations.

The investigation is ongoing, and official charges for the latest arrest are expected soon.
