As part of a special anti-narcotics drive, Kalyan police arrested three individuals for allegedly possessing 120 banned codeine-based cough syrup bottles, each containing 100 ml and collectively valued at approximately Rs27,000.
The accused have been identified as:
Tausif Surve (34) – a driver
Linkgaraj Allgud (40) – resident of Karnataka
Irfan Ibrahim – resident of Karnataka
The arrests were made on June 22 by officers from Bazarpeth Police Station during routine patrolling near Bakri Mandi Road in Kalyan. Officers noticed the three suspects behaving suspiciously and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of the codeine-laced cough syrup.
Following the seizure, all three were taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused were later produced in court and remanded to police custody.
Investigators suspect the men are linked to an interstate drug network, and efforts are underway to trace the origin of the contraband and identify potential buyers.
Police believe this bust has dealt a serious blow to the illegal codeine syrup distribution in the region.
