Taun Kirby Bewsher Arrested for Scamming Adventure Tourists
Fraudulent Tour Guide Deceives Clients Out of Thousands
The world of adventure tourism has been rocked by the arrest of Taun Kirby Bewsher, a so-called “tour guide” accused of defrauding clients out of thousands of dollars through false promises and deceit.
Operating under various business names such as Adventure Logistics, Adventure Cycling Tours, AdvLog, Africrancks, and Ultra MTB Events, Bewsher enticed customers with the allure of exclusive, tailor-made adventure experiences. Instead of guiding them through their promised trips, he led them into financial ruin.
A Trail of Broken Promises
Bewsher’s tactics were as calculated as they were cruel. Posing as an experienced guide, he would secure bookings, collect payments, and assure clients that their dream trips were about to unfold. However, once the money was in his pocket, the adventure quickly dissolved. His scams ranged from last-minute cancellations, citing a “no refund” clause, to simply disappearing—sometimes leaving clients stranded while he volunteered to fetch firewood, only to never return.
The Arrest That Ended the Ride
After numerous complaints and an investigation into his schemes, Bewsher’s fraudulent actions finally caught up with him. A vigilant client, who had read about similar scams on social media, reached out to Mike Bolhuis’ Specialist Security Services (SSS) team with evidence of a case where Bewsher defrauded her of R8,235.00. The case, registered with Pinelands Police under case number 80/3/2025, led to an investigation.
Working alongside Constable T. Nazier, SSS tracked down Bewsher to his home in Somerset West. On March 24, 2025, police moved in and arrested him. Further investigations uncovered another victim from October 2024, who had filed a report with Stellenbosch SAPS. This case, now connected to the initial one, strengthens the charges against Bewsher, who is set to appear before the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on March 26, 2025.
The swift and thorough work by SAPS officers has earned praise from SSS, with both authorities commended for their tireless efforts in bringing Bewsher’s fraudulent activities to an end. Thanks to their diligent work and the persistence of alert citizens, the adventure tourism industry may soon be rid of one more scam artist.
