JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Tashina Dobbins, who pleaded guilty to felony petty theft connected to a December 2023 shoplifting incident that led to a store employee’s death, is back in custody after skipping her court sentencing more than a month ago.
Court records show Dobbins was arrested Tuesday, after she failed to appear at her sentencing following her guilty plea. The case stems from a tragic incident on December 6, when Ilson Miriam Kim, an employee at Beauty Max on Atlantic Boulevard in the Kernan Village shopping plaza, was fatally struck by a getaway car during a theft attempt.
According to Jacksonville police, two individuals entered the store, and one grabbed several items before fleeing to a waiting vehicle. Kim chased the suspect and was run over while trying to stop the theft. She later died from her injuries at a local hospital.
David Pulliam Jr. is also facing charges in connection with the case.
Dobbins had been released on her own recognizance after pleading guilty, but her failure to appear in court has now resulted in her rearrest. Prosecutors indicated that skipping court could influence her final sentencing, which carries a potential penalty of up to five years in prison.
