Angul police have arrested Tapan Mikar Sahu, 27, for allegedly murdering Madhusmita Pradhan, 35, in Nalco township on December 1, 2025. Sahu, a plumber working under a contractor in the township, reportedly killed Madhusmita after she rejected his marriage proposal.
According to police, Sahu visited the home of Kartik Pradhan, Madhusmita’s husband, under the pretext of checking pipelines while Madhusmita was alone. He allegedly proposed to her, and when she refused and threatened to report him, Sahu strangled her using a dupatta. To mislead investigators, he also stole her earrings and mangalsutra before fleeing the scene.
Kartik Pradhan discovered his wife’s body later that evening and lodged a complaint with Nalco police. Two police teams were immediately formed, and Sahu was apprehended from his native Balasingha village under Angul Sadar police limits. He has confessed to the crime, and further investigations are ongoing, said Angul SP Rahul Jain.
