The Tankara police arrested two members of a gang responsible for robbing an angadia firm employee of Rs 90 lakh near Mitana village in Morbi district on Wednesday evening.
According to police reports, Patel was transporting the cash from Rajkot to Morbi when five to seven men, traveling in two cars, followed him. Near Mitana, the gang blocked his vehicle, smashed the windows using sticks and iron pipes, and rammed into his car to force it to stop. They snatched the cash and fled the scene.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Abhi Bharwad (24) and Abhijeet Bhargav (25), both residents of Bhavnagar.
Police have launched a manhunt for five other suspects — Hitesh Chavda, Nikul Algotar, Darshil Bharwad, Kano Ahir, and one unidentified person.
So far, authorities have recovered Rs 72.5 lakh in cash, two four-wheel vehicles used in the crime, five mobile phones, wooden sticks, and chili powder.
Tankara Police Inspector KM Chhasia said the traffic was deliberately jammed at Latipur crossroads to block possible escape routes. The vehicle carrying the accused was intercepted during a high-speed U-turn attempt, leading to an accident and the immediate arrest of Abhi and Abhijeet. During interrogation, they revealed the identities of their accomplices.
