GONZALES, La. — A 49-year-old hospital cleaner was arrested Tuesday after allegedly using an elderly patient’s stolen debit card to make over $100 in unauthorized purchases.
Tanisha Jackson is accused of stealing an 86-year-old patient’s wallet from Sage Rehabilitation Hospital on Saturday. Authorities say she then used the stolen debit card at several businesses in Gonzales and Baton Rouge.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Jackson using the card at “Off the Hook,” a seafood fast food restaurant in Gonzales. Deputies later searched her vehicle and recovered the stolen wallet along with receipts showing $125.85 in fraudulent charges.
Jackson was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of exploitation of the infirmed, identity theft, and theft.
While the incident took place at Sage Rehabilitation Hospital, officials clarified that Jackson was not a direct employee of the hospital but worked for a contracted janitorial company that services the facility.
