by Ananya Mehta

In a major breakthrough against inter-state drug trafficking, the Arunachal Pradesh Police intercepted a white Honda Elevate (AR27-2223) at Banderdewa Checkgate on the night of July 28, leading to the arrest of Tania Tatar (30) from Naharlagun and the seizure of heroin worth approximately Rs20 lakh.

The operation, led by SI Koj Tada and assisted by ASI S.K. Jha, H/C T. Bomdom, and other police and CRPF personnel, was based on reliable intelligence about heroin being transported from Assam into Arunachal. The vehicle was stopped around 9:30 PM, and upon inspection in the presence of Inspector Kipa Hamak and independent witnesses, 30 vials of heroin (total weight 39.92g) were discovered concealed in a green plastic bag under the bonnet.

During interrogation, Tatar confessed to procuring the contraband from Jiten Biswas, a notorious drug dealer from Assam.

Following this lead, a joint raid involving Arunachal and Assam Police was conducted at 1:00 AM on July 29 at Biswas’s residence in Parbotipur, Harmuti (Lakhimpur district). The search, supervised by SDPO Rishi Longdo, led to the recovery of:

7 soap cases containing suspected heroin (82.47g)

270 vials of suspected heroin (373.7g including vials)

332 empty vials

10 tablets of Nitrazepam IP 10mg (Batch No. T19415-B)

All items were seized according to legal protocol, and three individuals were arrested at the scene:

Jiten Biswas (35), r/o Parbotipur, Lakhimpur

Pushe Chetry (34), also from Parbotipur

Tania Tatar (30) – already in custody

A case has been registered under BDW/PS Case No. 56/2025 U/S 21(b) NDPS Act.

Nyelam Nega (APPS), SP of ICR Naharlagun, praised the Banderdewa police and CRPF team for their swift, coordinated action, and highlighted the critical role of inter-state cooperation in curbing the drug menace.
