SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A staff member at The Landings of Smithfield is facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting one of the facility’s most vulnerable residents.
Tameka Jeffries, 38, of Selma, has been charged with felony patient abuse and assault on a person with a disability. Authorities say she shoved an 88-year-old woman—who suffers from dementia and other disabilities—to the ground inside the assisted living facility on July 24, 2025.
The elderly resident sustained a broken hip as a result of the fall and was later hospitalized for surgery.
Jeffries was arrested on August 24 but was released just hours later on a $20,000 unsecured bond.
The incident marks another serious allegation involving The Landings of Smithfield, which has come under scrutiny in the past for similar complaints.
