Police have busted a gang in Delhi that allegedly robbed pedestrians by deliberately colliding with them, creating a distraction, and slipping cash or valuables from their pockets.
Two members of the so-called ‘Takkar Gang’ were arrested for using this method on busy streets.
According to DCP (Outer) Vikram Singh, the arrests followed a complaint by Om Parkash, a resident of Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, who works at a salon in Paschim Vihar. On February 26, Parkash reported that while walking near a bank around 2 pm, a man collided with him, started an argument, and pushed him. During the scuffle, an associate waiting on a motorcycle helped the main suspect escape. Parkash later realised that Rs10,000 had been stolen from his pocket.
A case was registered at Paschim Vihar East Police Station. Police scanned CCTV footage from nearby routes and traced a red motorcycle involved in the incident. The number plate led them to Neeraj (26).
A raid in Budh Vihar on March 6 resulted in the arrests of Neeraj and Rajesh Pandey (30).
Police said these arrests helped solve five cases. Neeraj was previously involved in seven criminal cases and is listed as a bad character by Mangolpuri Police Station, while Rajesh has six cases against him and was earlier convicted under the Gambling Act.
Authorities continue to investigate to ensure all gang members and linked cases are fully resolved.
