City police arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 260 grams of heroin worth around Rs52 lakh during a targeted operation.
The accused, Tajinder Singh, alias Tanu, a 20-year-old resident of Amritsar, was apprehended near a junction in Sector 21 after police received a tip-off about his movements.
According to investigators, Tajinder Singh had been staying in rented accommodation in the Budhanpur area. During the search, officers recovered the heroin from his possession.
ACP Arvind Kamboj from the crime branch said the contraband was allegedly sourced from Amritsar and supplied across the Tricity region, which includes Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and launched further investigations to identify other members of the drug distribution network.
