MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) – A man is facing first-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting his roommate’s abusive boyfriend in a domestic violence dispute.
The Memphis Police Department responded to a shooting call on Sunday, where they found Timothy Echols near the railroad tracks, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Echols was transported to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
The alleged shooter, Tajee Turnage, remained at the scene and spoke with officers. According to the police affidavit, Turnage said he received a FaceTime call from his female roommate, who was being physically assaulted by Echols. During the call, Turnage claimed he saw Echols take one of his firearms from his bedroom.
Turnage told police that upon arriving at the apartment complex, he saw Echols armed with the weapon and opened fire, striking him multiple times.
Police said Turnage waived his rights and provided a full statement to investigators. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
