Kolkata Police Cyber Cell has arrested 36-year-old Mohammad Sahil, a tailor who specializes in churidars, for masterminding multiple ATM frauds across south Kolkata. Sahil, residing in Gulshan Colony off Tiljala, allegedly used an innovative scamming technique that targeted unsuspecting bank customers.
Sahil is accused of using a “desi” method, reportedly learning from Romanian scammers and YouTube tutorials, to execute his fraudulent schemes. His activities came to light after a series of ATM frauds were reported since February, including a significant case in Survey Park where a victim lost around Rs 1 lakh.
Joint CP (Crime & Traffic) Rupesh Kumar confirmed that Sahil had confessed to conducting scams at ATMs in Survey Park and Behala Chowrasta over the past month. Additionally, his involvement in two other fraud cases in Mukundapur and Regent Park is under investigation.
