A fugitive with a long history of criminal cases, including a high-profile contract killing, was finally apprehended by the North Subdivision ACP team on Tuesday. The accused, T Dinesh Shetty, also known as Dinnu, hails from Belthangady, Dakshina Kannada.
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that Shetty had been convicted in a case registered at Mangaluru South police station for the murder of advocate Naushad Khashim. He allegedly committed the killing after taking a supari from underworld figures Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogish. Shetty was sentenced to life imprisonment, served 11 years in jail, and was released in December 2019 following a high court appeal.
After his release, Shetty became involved in multiple criminal cases, including:
Kidnapping case at Kavoor police station (2019)
Cheating case at Mangaluru North police station (2022)
Extortion case at Mangaluru North police station (2023)
He had been absconding for the past 1.5 years, failing to appear before the courts in these matters. The ACP team’s successful operation marks the end of his time on the run.
Authorities continue to investigate his involvement in ongoing criminal networks linked to underworld activities.
