DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — A Scott County jury on Wednesday found 39-year-old Sylvis Brandon Nelson guilty of second-degree murder in the March 2021 death of his girlfriend, Cobrianda Anderson.

The trial, which began on June 2, concluded with the conviction after the jury considered evidence presented by prosecutors.

In March 2021, Davenport police were called to a home on the 1900 block of West 1st Street for an unresponsive woman. Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nelson was arrested in April 2021. A judge ruled in May 2021 that there was enough probable cause to try him for murder.

At a preliminary hearing, a detective testified that Nelson told first responders Anderson had suffered an asthma attack. However, the detective also detailed that Anderson had heavy bruising on her face, neck, and throat, along with bruises and pronounced bite marks on her arms and legs, indicating abuse.

Nelson’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 18.
