WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Washington, D.C., woman has been charged in federal court after allegedly assaulting Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents during the custody transfer of two suspected international gang members.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Sydney Lori Reid, 44, actively interfered with federal officers at the D.C. Central Detention Facility. The July 23 indictment charges her with assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees.

Officials say Reid’s actions not only endangered the safety of federal agents but also risked the escape of two high-risk criminal offenders.

“Her actions could have led to serious injuries to federal agents, as well as two criminal alien offenders absconding justice,” said HSI Washington Acting Special Agent in Charge Christopher Heck.

The case is being investigated by HSI Washington and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
