Indore police have arrested Suvesh alias Chhotu Parmar, a resident of Chunur village in Dhar district, and Dheeraj Goyal from Mahalaxmi Nagar, for cheating multiple people using a fake UPI payment app.
According to Additional DCP (Zone-2) Amrendra Singh, the accused would approach petrol pumps and commercial outlets pretending to urgently need cash, claiming they would repay via PhonePe or similar UPI platforms. They convinced employees with emotional stories, such as a family emergency, and showed fake UPI transaction screenshots generated using a fraudulent app after receiving the cash.
One complainant, Nitin Patidar, a salesman at Patidar Fuel Station on Kanadiya Road, said he gave the accused Rs6000 in cash on May 22. They showed a fake payment screenshot and escaped. When the money didn’t arrive even after several days, he realized he had been scammed.
Another victim, Rohit Prajapat, working at a pump on Bypass Road, confirmed he too was cheated by the same duo for Rs4500.
Based on their testimonies, police from Kanadiya station launched an investigation and successfully arrested the accused. During interrogation, the duo admitted to scamming over 24 people using the fake UPI app method.
