Mopa Airport Police have arrested Nikesh Chari (34), a suspended IRBn constable from Korgao, for snatching a gold mangalsutra worth Rs 1.8 lakh from a woman in Torxem, Pernem.
The incident occurred early morning when Chari, riding a scooter, forcibly pulled the chain from the neck of the 55-year-old victim and fled the scene. The abandoned scooter was later found near Tamboxem jungle.
A joint combing operation by Mopa and Pernem police led to the arrest of Chari and the recovery of the stolen jewellery. North Goa Superintendent of Police has recommended his termination from service.
