Accused of faking police recruitment documents

NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives have arrested a suspended civil servant accused of forging official government documents, including a letter recommending candidates for police recruitment.

Maroa Sammy Maroa, an economist attached to the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, was apprehended in Ngoigwa, Thika West Sub-county, after investigators tracked him following days of evasion. Authorities said he presented a forged letter to the CEO of the National Police Service Commission, claiming it was sanctioned by a senior government official and listing “state-recommended” recruits.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations noted that Maroa, who is already on suspension, faces another ongoing case at Kahawa Law Courts for allegedly forging a letter promoting himself to Director and transferring himself to the State Department for Housing.

Investigators reported that Maroa had switched off his phone after learning he was under pursuit, but intelligence teams traced him to his hideout. He was taken into custody and is expected to face new charges.

In a statement, the DCI warned the public against exploiting government processes through forged documents, highlighting growing concerns over fraud in public institutions and urging verification of official communications.
