On Monday, January 6, 2025, a Suwanee man was arrested by Gwinnett County Police after allegedly stealing $5,000 in a car sale scam involving a vehicle purchase on Facebook Marketplace.

The incident occurred at 1625 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, Georgia, when a victim attempted to buy a white Dodge Charger from a suspect who had posted the vehicle for sale on Facebook Marketplace. After the victim handed over $5,000 for the car, the suspect fled in the vehicle without completing the transaction.

Thanks to quick-thinking police officers and advanced technology, Gwinnett County Police tracked the suspect’s vehicle using DOT and FLOCK cameras. Within 30 minutes, a K9 officer spotted the suspect’s car on Old Norcross Road and Herrington Road.

The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Kobe Isaih Romain-Grant of Suwanee, was pulled over and arrested without incident. Police recovered the stolen $5,000 during the traffic stop.

Romain-Grant was charged with felony theft by taking and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. The Gwinnett County Police Department urges buyers and sellers to use their designated parking spaces for transactions to ensure safety.
