In a swift crackdown, Govindnagar police arrested five men on Wednesday for stealing iron plates from outside a commercial establishment within the jurisdiction. The gang, which operated in two coordinated units, was caught under a highway overbridge with 12 iron plates weighing around 7 quintals.
The arrested suspects were identified as:
Sushil Giri (Barra-8)
Umesh Giri and Sandeep Giri (Jarauli Phase-2)
Krishna Giri and Dhananjay Giri (Dharampur village, Ghazipur district)
Inspector Pradeep Kumar Singh stated that the group had a well-organized modus operandi. One unit used a vehicle for surveillance, scouting potential targets. The second unit, traveling with a loader, executed the actual theft. While the loader gang removed the plates, the surveillance unit kept watch from a distance to alert if needed.
The loader and surveillance vehicle used in the crime were also seized. Following their arrest, the suspects were presented in court and have since been remanded to judicial custody.
Police are continuing investigations to determine if the gang was involved in similar thefts across the region.
