CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Newly released court records have revealed troubling conditions inside an east Charlotte home connected to the death of a 6-year-old girl, leading to the arrest of a 61-year-old woman.

Susan Robinson was taken into custody Saturday and charged with one count of intentional child abuse resulting in serious physical injury, along with four misdemeanor child abuse charges. She remains jailed without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

According to investigators, Robinson was an adult caregiver living in the household and is accused of causing serious physical harm to the child. Court documents allege the victim suffered multiple injuries consistent with prolonged neglect and abuse.

Records further state that Robinson allowed three children, including the deceased girl, to live in unsafe and unsanitary conditions at a home on Gwynne Hill Road. The residence was described as poorly maintained, lacking basic utilities, and infested with rodents and insects, creating a hazardous environment for children.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to the home near Harrisburg Road around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday. The child was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Officials have not publicly released the cause of death or the victim’s identity.

Authorities have not announced whether additional charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
