In a shocking case that has rattled Tamil actor Suriya’s inner circle, his longtime personal security officer, Anthony George Prabhu, was allegedly defrauded of Rs42 lakh by a trusted member of his household staff.
The main accused, Sulochana, who worked as a domestic help at Suriya’s residence, is alleged to have masterminded the fraud along with her sons Balaji and Bhaskar, and another relative, Vijayalakshmi. According to the Chennai police, the group lured Prabhu into a phony gold investment scheme that turned out to be part of a wider operation involving multiple victims across the city.
To gain his trust, the scammers initially returned 30 grams of gold for an investment of Rs1 lakh. Encouraged by this apparent success, Prabhu went on to invest a total of Rs42 lakh between January and February 2025.
However, by March, all communication from the accused stopped. Suspicious, Prabhu filed a police complaint in July, triggering a formal investigation.
Chennai police swiftly registered an FIR and uncovered evidence of similar frauds targeting other victims. The four accused were arrested and are currently in judicial custody, while efforts to trace more victims and recover the scammed funds are ongoing.
Sources close to the actor say that Sulochana’s employment was terminated immediately after the incident came to light. While Suriya has not issued a public statement, he is said to be letting the legal system take its course.
The incident, though personal, has not affected the actor’s professional commitments. His recent release, “Retro” (2025) starring Pooja Hegde, is enjoying a strong box-office run and positive reviews. Suriya is also involved in several high-profile projects, including:
Karuppu (dir. RJ Balaji)
Suriya 46 (dir. Venky Atluri)
Irumbu Kai Mayavi (dir. Lokesh Kanagaraj)
These films are expected to release between late 2025 and 2026, further solidifying his status as one of Tamil cinema’s most bankable stars.
