Karkala Rural police have registered two separate cases and arrested two individuals in connection with attempted theft and house break-ins within their jurisdiction.
In the first case, Suresh Koraga Poojary, 53, from Nitte village, Karkala taluk, attempted to steal from a credit cooperative society on January 16, 2026. CCTV footage helped police identify and apprehend him on Saturday. Poojary has multiple prior theft cases registered in Karkala Town, Karkala Rural, Padubidri, Belthangady, and Udupi. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
In the second case, Manotosh Kayal, 39, a native of West Bengal residing in Ganjimutt, Mangaluru, was arrested for breaking locks of unoccupied houses and committing theft. Kayal reportedly scouted for empty homes during daytime, broke locks, and stole items such as batteries, according to Udupi SP Hariram Shankar.
Both arrests were executed by a police team under the guidance of DSP Prabhu DT and Inspector Manjappa, led by Karkala Rural police PSI Prasanna MS, with assistance from PSI Sundar, ASIs Prakash and Sundar Gowda, among others.
