The Yamakanmaradi police have arrested a man accused of carrying out a series of house burglaries to finance a lavish lifestyle. The accused, Suresh Maruti Naik, a resident of Mahantesh Nagar, Belagavi, was taken into custody on Thursday following an intensive investigation.

Police recovered 1,280 grams of gold ornaments, 8.5 kg of silver, Rs1.2 lakh in cash, a Thar SUV, and two two-wheelers from the accused. The breakthrough came after a burglary reported on October 22 at the residence of Vishwanath Duggani in Yamakanmaradi village, where valuables worth several lakhs were stolen.

Acting on vital clues and employing scientific investigation techniques, a police team led by Yamakanmaradi Inspector Javed Mushapuri successfully cracked the case. During interrogation, Naik allegedly confessed to committing similar burglaries in Yamakanmaradi, Managutti village, and areas falling under the Sankeshwar police limits.

According to Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled, the accused has 21 previous criminal cases registered against him across the district. Police said he specifically targeted houses belonging to affluent families, especially those lacking CCTV surveillance, and fled immediately after each theft.

“With the stolen money, the accused purchased a Thar SUV and two motorcycles to maintain a luxurious lifestyle,” the SP said, commending the police team for the swift detection of the crimes.
