Ranchi city police, in one of their most significant drug busts in recent times, arrested four individuals—including a woman—across two city locations on Friday, dismantling an inter-state brown sugar trafficking network and securing narcotics and cash worth approximately Rs27 lakh.
Arrested suspects:
Suraj Kumar (25), from Sasaram, Bihar
Sejal Khan (22), from Ranchi
Vishal Mittal alias Hemant Mittal (25), from Ranchi
Arif Iqbal (26), from Ranchi
According to SSP Chandan Kumar Singh, intelligence revealed that brown sugar was being trafficked from Sasaram into Ranchi’s Nur Nagar area. A raid conducted around 3 AM by DSP Kotwali yielded about 110 grams of brown sugar, worth approximately Rs23 lakh, along with Rs4.5 lakh in cash. Authorities also confiscated two mobile phones and a scooter used in the operation.
During questioning, Suraj and Sejal linked themselves to long-running trafficking operations. Sejal also revealed her elder sister’s involvement in the network, and police are attempting to arrest her as well.
Police officials warn that this bust will severely disrupt drug circulation in the region.
