The Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested 36-year-old Suraj K, a burglar believed to be behind several thefts across the region. Suraj, a resident of Uppala in Kasaragod district, Kerala, was apprehended after a detailed investigation led by a joint team from the Puttur Rural, Vittal, and Kadaba police stations.

Suraj was notorious for committing daytime burglaries, carefully leaving no trace at the crime scenes. The breakthrough came on December 20, when a theft occurred at a house in Bhaktakodi, Puttur. The thief had forcibly broken open the door and stolen gold jewellery, prompting the filing of a case at the Puttur Rural Police Station.

As additional thefts were reported across the district, SP Yathish N instructed the formation of a special investigation team. Through diligent efforts, the team successfully identified and arrested Suraj K, who was linked to seven theft cases across Puttur, Kadaba, Vittal, and Bantwal police jurisdictions.

During the arrest, the police seized 200 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh and a car valued at Rs 3 lakh, which Suraj had been using for his crimes.

In recognition of the team’s hard work and success, Dakshina Kannada district police authorities have announced special rewards for the officers involved in the investigation.
