In a major breakthrough, Juhu Police arrested two history-sheeters in connection with a Rs1.2 crore jewellery heist at a businessman’s flat in Vile Parle, Mumbai. The burglary occurred in June when the victim and his family were away on a vacation in South Africa.
According to investigators, identifying the exact date of the crime was critical as the complainant was out of the country. Only one CCTV camera in the building was working, and the footage was unclear.
“Officers had to painstakingly review 12 days of CCTV footage to narrow down the burglary window,” a senior officer said. The team determined the break-in occurred on June 28 between 2:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The police first identified Sunny Pawar (25) as a suspect. He had fled Mumbai with his wife on the day of the burglary. After tracing his movements, a team arrested him from Punjab.
Pawar’s interrogation led police to his accomplice, Rahul Mudne, who was later picked up from Navi Mumbai.
Both individuals have criminal records, and police are probing whether they were involved in other similar high-value thefts.
Juhu Police praised the meticulous surveillance work and interstate coordination that led to the arrests. Investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen jewellery and determine the full extent of the duo’s criminal activities.
