A joint team from Town and Chainpur police stations in Palamu district arrested five members of a gang, including a woman, involved in 14 burglary and theft cases, police said Tuesday. One of the cases is registered in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Palamu SP Reeshma Rameshan, the accused — Raja Dome (23), Lucky Dome (19), Akash Dome (19), Ashu Chandravanshi (18), and Sunita Dome (45), mother of Akash — would break into locked houses at night to steal valuables. All are residents within the Town police station limits and were apprehended on Monday.
The cases span multiple jurisdictions: six with Town police station, two with Chainpur, and five with Garhwa police station in Garhwa district.
“The thieves would scout homes during the day and strike at night,” said SP Rameshan. Jewelry worth Rs 4 lakh, including 30 grams of gold and 400 grams of silver, was recovered. Authorities also seized antique coins dating back to 1875, 1878, and 1901 from the gang.
