Uttarakhand Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has filed a case against six individuals for allegedly luring local youths with promises of high-paying jobs in Thailand and trafficking them to scam centres in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region, reportedly operated by a Chinese mafia network.
The action follows the rescue and return of nine youths from Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and US Nagar districts earlier in November. The youths had been held captive and coerced into committing cyber fraud targeting victims worldwide.
DSP Kush Mishra, STF, explained that during questioning, the youths identified several perpetrators. Based on their statements, six individuals—Sunil Kumar, Ashok Singh, Pinky, Nirav Chaudhary, Pradeep (all from US Nagar), and Dhananjay from Mumbai—were implicated. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act.
Two accused, Sunil Kumar and Nirav Chaudhary, were arrested on Saturday night and sent to judicial custody. Authorities are actively investigating to apprehend the remaining accused involved in the racket.
Mishra elaborated that victims were contacted via phone calls and apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp. They were promised lucrative jobs, given advance payments, and assisted with tickets and visas. Upon arrival, they were taken across the border to Myanmar and forced to work in scam centres.
The STF continues to probe the operations of the network and the involvement of other individuals in this human trafficking and cyber fraud syndicate.
