Nagpur Cyber Police have arrested Sundarkumar Singh, 20, from Bihar for allegedly extorting nearly Rs 50 lakh from a 25-year-old professional in Nagpur’s Sonegaon area through a sextortion scheme.
The victim started chatting with a woman claiming to be a student from Gorakhpur on WhatsApp in January 2025. After gaining the victim’s trust and sharing an explicit photo, the woman began blackmailing him, threatening to leak the image online.
Fearing public embarrassment, the victim transferred around Rs 50 lakh over several weeks before filing a police complaint due to emotional and financial distress.
Cybercrime officials traced the operation to Purnia, Bihar, leading to Sundarkumar’s arrest. DCP Cybercrime Lohit Matani confirmed this appears to be the accused’s first known sextortion case, with investigations ongoing.
Authorities are currently analyzing the accused’s digital and financial records to identify more victims and possible collaborators. Police advise the public to avoid engaging with unknown contacts and sharing personal content online, urging victims to report incidents promptly with assurances of confidentiality and strict legal action.
